Sashiko Workshop

On Sashiko

Sashiko conveys a spirit ancient but not stale. As a way of slowing down and mending life, it is the embodiment of Wenjue’s philosophy of life and attitude towards relationships, and it has become a crucial rhetorical device in her works. It is also an opportunity for the studio to share this beautiful traditional handicraft, and urge people to slow down and discover some subtle but authentic beauties in life.

Workshop Details

We are glad to present to you Wenjüe Lu’s Sashiko Workshop Series. Coming in two different levels, introductory and intermediate, the workshop introduces guests to the organic hand stitching, Sashiko, which was traditionally used as a mending technique. We will apply this stitching to create various living goods ranging from tea mats to coasters and bags… At end of the workshop, you will have an idea of how Sashiko is done along with some basic understanding of sewing processes, and most importantly, the rewarding joy of do-it-yourself.

The Sashiko workshops are offered at the following location:

We offer different levels of Sashiko workshops throughout the month. Guests are encouraged to start from the Introductory Workshop to get familiar with the Sashiko technique then moving on to the Intermediate Workshop.
